The Olympics are coming!

I am still new to this blogging lark and therefore I hope I will not bore anyone who choses to read. I will continue to have a go!

Not everyone on my timeline will be pleased the Olympic Games are underway and officially opening tomorrow for many reasons, however my family and I are excited and looking forward to the games.

We love our sport, watch loads on the TV and go to live events. We have had a great week sportswise with the fantastic end to the Tour de France and the wonderful achievement of Bradley Wiggins, and the fantastic finish to the week in the sprints by Mark Cavendish, whose finish on Friday was nothing short of breathtaking. The British Open at Lytham St Anne's (we went Saturday), and Sunday's end leading to Ernie Els victory in the face of Adam Scott's sad finish. Then yesterday the Hampshire Royals (not a potato) pulled off a nail biting finish against Nottinghamshire in the T20 quarter finals. We were travelling at the time and desperately trying to keep up with the score via Twitter and 3G which disappeared at the bottom of hills!

My Husband went a couple of weeks ago to watch the Olympic torch go through town and we were at St Mary's Stadium to see the torch hand over during the Marcus Liebherr Memorial Cup. Yes we really love our sport. At it's best it makes you happy and elated and want to bounce around like a five year old.

I would wish all of our athletes and sports men and women the very best for the games. we can't wait and shall be heartily screaming and shouting you on. Go Team GB!

Oh I don't know, lifes a bugger perhaps!

So the first decision on this new blog is what colour and font and blog style. All done and in purple. I like purple. Why am I writing this blog? that's a very good question.

I read daily the really good writings of many people across many spectrums. I like sport and a jolly laugh and a bit of banter with some of the new friends I have made on Twitter. I also follow the social tweeters, the last blog I read was that of Sue Marsh. Lord above knows what she is going through and all the while trying to put the world to rights for those who can't. People like Sue are an inspiration especially when you are feeling isolated, you know you are not alone.

Those of you who follow me know I have a daughter with severe learning disabilities so my cause is pretty straight forward to look after C and those like her. To try and make sure they can live life, without fear and with enough money and support to ensure they are safe. Many of the people I follow on Twitter have the same aims and ambitions.

We also share the same stresses of fluctuating between wanting to scream, exhaustion, fustration, want to hit someone in the face with a sock full of cold custard, wanting to hide in a dark hole or just explode like a super nova in the hope someone will notice life is bloody tough out here for those who are sick or disabled.

It would be so nice if politicians could actually work together and come up with some practical solutions to these problems of care, rather than playing political ping pong and scoring points off of each other and behaving like a bunch of badly behaved 10 year olds.

I know after Bristol, which is every parent of a disabled child's worst nightmare, my dodgy sleep patern isn't getting any better. That  coupled with what I see in my voluntary role that is happening to people, especially those who are moderately learning disabled, fills me with despair. These people are falling through the cracks and they are ignored until there is a crisis or someone speaks out for them. Even when you do speak out, getting help can be very difficult and long drawn out.

And just to clarify I am not a 'moaning leftie', infact I have never thought of myself as a lefty at all more a boring middley. What I believe in is fairness, although I appreciate what I may consider fair may not be the same point of view as others.

At this moment I am a tired mum of a 27 year old and that my family and I will be fighting for C and those like her till we fall off our perch. That's the reallity. I hope it's a sturdy perch!

I am signing off now, I haven't run out of fight, not at least until I run out of Tetley Tea!

The appropriate signoff for an oldtrekkie -
